Schedule X Drugs

Schedule X drugs are a category of drugs that have a high potential for abuse and dependence. These drugs are highly addictive and can cause severe physical and psychological dependence if used for a long time. They are only available through a prescription and cannot be purchased over-the-counter.

Examples of Schedule X drugs include:

  • Opioids such as morphine and fentanyl
  • Some amphetamines
  • Other drugs with a high potential for abuse and dependence

Schedule X drugs are regulated by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. They are only prescribed by registered medical practitioners and dispensed by licensed pharmacists. The prescription must include the name and dosage of the drug, as well as the name and address of the patient and the prescribing doctor.
