Gurjeet initiated his career as Merchant Navy officer and the joined People Science

movement and Total literacy campaign in Dhanbad part of Bharat Gyan Vigyan samiti and

involved with Right to food, work and health campaign in Jharkhand. Associated with

Community health programme and served as Ombudsperson in MGNREGA. He played vital

role in establishing social audit units in eastern states and as State Convenor, Social audit

unit Jharkhand. Gurjeet Singh is currently serving as Mission Manager National Resource

Centre for Social Audits for Department of Social Justice and empowerment.

गुरजीत Singh, who worked with Literacy Mission of Dhanbad from 1994 to 2002 before turning into a RTI and MGNREGS activist, said: “My association with Dreze dates back to 2003-04 when we were launched a campaign for implementation of midday meal. We later worked together as MGNREGS activists.”

गुरजीत सिंह (50) एक निम्न-आय वर्ग के परिवार से आते हैं, जहाँ उनके पिता जीवन यापन के लिए ट्रेनों में बिस्किट बेचते थे। बाद में उनका परिवार तोपचाची में बस गया और अब उनके पास एक पेट्रोल पंप है। शिपिंग कॉरपोरेशन ऑफ इंडिया में मरीन इंजीनियर के रूप में शुरुआत करने वाले सिंह ने सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता बनने के लिए नौकरी छोड़ दी। उन्हें 2012 में झारखंड में मनरेगा का लोकपाल नियुक्त किया गया था।

सिंह ने कहा कि उन्हें देश के विकास की चिंता है। "मैं अपने देश की सेवा करने के लिए राजनीति में शामिल हुआ हूं। मैंने निर्वाचन क्षेत्र में प्रचार करना शुरू किया और विश्वास है कि निवासी मेरी साख और स्वच्छ छवि को देखते हुए मुझे वोट देंगे," एस ने कहा।
